I am far from knowledgeable about politics; I just don’t have the time nor the great desire to keep up with them. I do read news headlines though so I do occasionally pick up on some things going on in the political world. Today I saw an article and some tweets about the health care reform bill being voted on, and likely approved by the House. From what I read, part of the bill deals with abortions, and more specifically the funding of abortions. This is how an AP article summarized the effects of the bill on abortions:
ABORTION: The proposal keeps the abortion provision in the Senate bill. Abortion opponents disagree on whether restrictions on taxpayer funding go far enough. The bill tries to maintain a strict separation between taxpayer dollars and private premiums that would pay for abortion coverage. No health plan would be required to offer coverage for abortion. In plans that do cover abortion, policyholders would have to pay for it separately, and that money would have to be kept in a separate account from taxpayer money. States could ban abortion coverage in plans offered through the exchange. Exceptions would be made for cases of rape, incest and danger to the life of the mother.
My interpretation: this new bill is no better because abortions are going to remain legal. The killing of innocent, little human beings will continue to be allowed, although there will be a stricter separation of the funding of these murders. The funding of these murders should not be an issue because abortion should not be an issue. It is murder and in no way, shape or form should it be allowed. When will America realize this? I pray that the eyes of our country be opened to this matter and that we would realize that our legalization of over a million murders each year is ridiculous and wrong before millions more of innocent babies are denied the opportunity to live.

This is an irrational assumption of anything that has been passed politically in the past couple of days. Actually, it is just and irrational outlook on anything relating to or of the concerns of legalizing abortions. I am in no way in favor of abortions, and I find it hard to believe that anyone actually could be, but there isn’t any way that anyone will ever be able to stop all abortions. In relation to other “illegal” things, like marijuana, abortion is something that is always going to happen even though many believe that it is not the thing to do. In understanding of that, why not make all “exceptions” (i.e. rape, incest, and health concerns for the mother) more healthy procedures instead of having them performed without a doctors expertise instead or having one done by some random third party where both lives could be in danger? In addition to this… I think I remember you being in full support of the Obama campaign during the presidency race, did you not understand that this was part of his plan? Also, consider the issue with Iraq and the thousands of lives lost along with the billions of dollars lost: is this less important to you than a life that hasn’t even happened yet? Why isn’t a life that is at risk fighting for our country as important or more important than one that only knows that of its mother’s stomach. Arguments are necessary, and actually sort of fun, but irrational judgments are irrelevant and omitted by the vast majority of society.

I really appreciate your comment. First of all, I supported Barack Obama during his candidacy and still fully support him as the President of our nation; this will not change. However, just because I support him does not mean that I support everything that he does. So to answer that questions, yes, I was fully aware of Mr. Obama’s stance on abortion. In this particular case, I am not taking a stance on the overall healthcare reform bill, neither condemning it nor promoting it; I just stated my opinion that it did not make things better in the area of abortions no matter what changes it made on the funding of these murders. Along with my Christian values, I believe that abortions are completely wrong. Period. They are murder of an innocent human being. It is as simple as that. So in no way do I support abortions. When we began to label “exceptions,” all we are doing is attempting to reclassify and justify what are ultimately abortions. I once was pro-choice for some of the reasons you stated such as these “exceptions” as well as the likelihood of “back-street abortions” that would be very dangerous. But I feel much different now, mostly because of my Christian beliefs.
To address the second part of your argument about the war in Iraq, I am not sure that I really agree with our US presence there, but I am fairly undecided on the issue. (Although, I do fully support our troops and am very appreciative for their sacrifices.) But you can’t even compare the sacrifices of our military to the issue of abortions; it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Firstly, our troops are voluntary; they sign up for the military. Innocent human babies do not sign up to be murdered. Secondly, very few of our total military have been killed in Iraq. I know the death tolls are much higher that anyone would like, but the military is in no way, shape or form a place that you just sign up and are just killed. That’s all an abortion is. Lastly, I’m not sure what your religious views are so we may differ on this point simply because of that, but how do you value one life over another? How can you say that a military troops’ life is anymore valuable that a baby’s life in its mother’s stomach? I cannot believe that you can justify how any life is more valuable than another?
Anyways, I’m sure I left some stuff out but I hope this will suffice for now. Please do not hesitate to contact me again. I have enjoyed your willingness to converse.
ps- did you watch the video embedded into the blog? I think it may explain a little more about how I feel in a different perspective.
